Non sono ovviamente solo io a spulciare i documenti trapelati su Windows 8 e altri futuri piani di Microsoft - altri post: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6 . 7. 8. - per cercare "tesori nascosti" del gigante del software.

Windows8news.com, per esempio, evidenzia di come Microsoft, per competere con l'iPad, stia preparando una strategia simile a quella messa in campo per Windows Phone 7, ossia dettare dei requisiti minimi per i futuri tablet.

Ed eccoli i requisiti minimi dei tablet che dovranno supportare Windows 8:

A 9″ diagonal display, at least 768px width
A Direct X accelerated graphics processing unit (GPU)
GPS for location aware applications (likely optional)
Wireless LAN connectivity
Camera for facial detection
3-Axis Accelerometer (likely optional)
Ambient light sensor with adaptive brightness (likely optional)

Si precede che la vendita di Tablet sarà in forte in crescita nei prossimi anni; Microsoft ha solo quindi rimandato di mettere la sua mano pesante in quel campo.

Windows 8: un solo click per reinstallare il sistema, senza perdita dei dati e dei programmi

C'è che ha dubbi che i documenti trapelati su Windows 8 (e altri futuri piani di Microsoft) siano da prendere con le molle, poiché Microsoft non commenta (e cosa dovrebbe dire?) - altri post: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6 - Ma indipendentemente di quanto dei documenti segretissimi diventino per caso o per intenzione di dominio pubblico, c'è da dire che sembrano molto veri, soprattutto per i dettagli tecnici, corredati da immagini esplicative.

Ed ecco un altro esempio emblematico; o meglio, "quello che per anni è sembrato un sogno diventa realtà" con Windows 8. Microsoft sembra abbia pianificato un pulsante di reset che in poche parole dovrebbe reinstallare Windows 8, mantenendo i dati, il settaggio e i programmi, senza backup, formattazioni e ... tutto quello che ormai ben conosciamo.

Nelle diapositive viene presentato uno scenario per spiegare come potrebbe avvenire.

1. Windows 8 comincia a scadere nelle prestazioni, l'utente sa cosa fare; preme il pulsante di reset e comincia a reimpostare il sistema:

2. Lo fa tranquillamente, sapendo che "tutte le sue cose" non andranno perdute:

3. Windows viene ripristinato (verosimilmente da un'immagine creata in fase di prima installazione, mia idea)

4. Dopo il ripristino si viene indirizzati verso l'App Store per reinstallare i programmi che si erano acquistati in precedenza. viene mostrata anche l'opzione di installare altri programmi al di fuori di App Store.

Che ne dite?

Continuiamo a "leggere" le slide trapelate - altri post: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5 - In una diapositiva appare il prototipo di un computer che somiglia a un Mac [non mi piace, almeno per quanto è dato da vedere]. Si intravede il vecchio sfondo col "pesce" di Windows 7; potrebbe trattarsi quindi di una vecchia immagine che riguarda la pianificazione di Windows 7. Ma allora perché includerla nella pianificazione di Windows 8? Sotto ci sono anche le specifiche:

Windows 8: sensori, GPS, schizzo di un tablet - Immagini esclusive

Nei posts precedenti - 1. 2. 3. 4. - abbiamo parlato circa le fughe di notizie su alcune informazioni interne di Microsoft, da parte di OEM partners, riguardo a Windows 8.

Una delle notizie più importanti è che Windows 8 dovrebbe apportare notevoli modifiche nell'hardware futuro, poiché si prevede che windows 8 di divertirà a gestire GPS tracker e sensori.
Ci si attende che Windows 8 possa utilizzare il servizio di localizzazione "Orion". Sarà anche possibile cercare l'indirizzo IP di un particolare sistema nell'intervallo di 25 km. Microsoft sta lavorando per fornire un supporto migliore per i sensori; al momento si possono trarre queste considerazioni:

Windows 8 supporterà i driver per InfraRossi, luce ambiente, accelerometri e sensori GPS.

Ecco gli scenari sino a ora plausibili per i sensori:

3. Sistema di Orientamento

Microsoft osserva il “Virtuous Cycle,” di Apple

Sono molto interessanti le diaposite super-segrete trapelate; oltre quanto detto probabilmente riveleranno altro a una lettura più completa e attenta. Per esempio, in una slide viene descritto che Microsoft studia il "ciclo virtuoso" di Apple; “Virtuous Cycle,” è un noto termine economico che descrive un ciclo di feedback positivo.

Nella slide di Windows 8 citata, c'è un esempio del ciclo con nell'ordine i seguenti punti:

-Brand Promise,
-UX is low in friction,
-Confidence in ability to use,
-Realized value,
-High satisfaction, which leads to Brand Promise all over again.

Insomma, la realizzazione di quanto promesso e la "facilità d'uso" realizzano una grande fiducia verso il prodotto che viene così valorizzato (anche più di quanto realmente valga, n.d.r.) in un circolo virtuoso infinito, stabilendo così una "fedeltà alla marca".

In questo senso con Windows 7 sembra che Microsoft abbia già cominciato ad applicare quel "ciclo virtuoso". Ma questo è un mio pensiero, non è chiaramente scritto nella diapositiva trapelata di PowerPoint.

Microsoft Windows 8: Informazioni Ufficiali

Negli ultimi giorni si sono avute le prime risposte pesanti alla domanda "cosa possiamo aspettarci da Windows 8?", qui e qui per ripassare (sempre utile). Molti sono stati colpiti quindi dalla nuova generazione di connettività e dalla Kinect like webcam.

Cosa aspettarsi dal Kinect bowling?
Un blogger chiamato Francisco Martin Garcia ha rivelato dettagli molto confidenziali, e sembra attendibili, sul suo blog. Ecco quindi una sintesi di "cosa possiamo aspettarci da Windows 8", secondo Martin e secondo quello che sappiamo sino a oggi:

Connettività USB 3.0 e Bluetooth 3.0. e Riconoscimento facciale con log-in automatico.

Grande velocità di boot-up (caricamento). In certe situazioni sembra che il caricamento possa essere praticamente istantaneo.

"When customers want to check e-mail, sports scores, or play media they love to reach for their PCs because they can get to what they want quickly." - si dice nel documento -

Personalizzazione di Windows 8

Se veramente quasta caratteristica verrà implementata sarà, a mio modesto parere, tra le funzioni più gradite agli utenti. In pratica, i partners di Microsoft potranno personalizzare windows 8 in senso hardware e software, seguendo la strada aperta da Windows Embedded Compact 7 e Windows Mobile.

MY PC, MY WAY

Windows 8 potrà adattarsi alla variazione delle condizioni di luminosità, consentendo la visione migliore possibile per quella condizione di luce.

Windows 8: le slide confidenziali da scaricare

E non trapela solo il "Sensor-Scenario" di Windows 8 ma anche altri documenti definiti "confidenziali". Si tratta di 17 slide e ce lo segnala windowsette.com.

Si parla di Internet Explorer 9, di Windows Live Essentials e di Windows 8. Questo, oltre ai sensori di movimento e di riconoscimento e la geolocalizzazione, avrà un proprio Windows Store per poter comprare e scaricare applicazioni e giochi (era ora!)

Così come indicato da Microsoft Journal, Windows Live Essentials verrà rilasciato in versione definitiva a metà agosto.

ESCLUSIVO: trapela il Sensor-Scenario di Windows 8

Sono grandi le aspettative per il futuro Windows 8, specialmente dopo il grande successo di Windows 7 e gli scenari che si aprono con il cloud computing [e questo quadro ovviamente non sfugge a Microsoft].

"Il Cloud Computing sposta in rete quasi tutte le attività che ora svolgiamo col computer in locale", una mia definizione sintetica.

In realtà su Windows 8 si hanno già una discreta quantità di notizie, ma quasi tutte di carattere generale, niente di strettamente tecnico. Ma qualcosa è finalmente trapelata nel web e ve ne diamo notizia in esclusiva.

Windows 8 sarà capace di apportare modifiche all'hardware dei computer, in special modo i portatili. Si giunge a questa conclusione dopo che è trapelato nel web (per i soliti partners di Microsoft) il "Sensor Scenario" di Windows 8. Può essere fatto mediante i sensori di prossimità, riconoscimento e convalida.

Certe "note" bisognerebbe leggerle bene, anche se, per la lunghezza, possono sembrare noiose a un esame superficiale. Se rileggiamo meglio una nota di Steve Ballmer, datata 27 maggio 2010, scopriamo cose molto interessanti sulla prossima versione di Windows.

Prima di tutto Ballmer dice chiaramente che la prossima versione di Windows e IE insieme formeranno un SO cloud based.

And that’s why this notion of the so-called cloud is so important. The cloud really is a buzzword more than anything, it’s not a thing. The cloud is not the Internet, the cloud is not some one Microsoft product or competitive product. The cloud is a new model for computing. It’s a new model for computing that brings together the best of rich clients with the best of the Internet. It brings together the best of the enterprise data centers with the best of the Internet. It is a phenomenon that all products will need to take advantage of. Windows and IE will fuse together and embrace the cloud. Office, we’re embracing the cloud. Windows Summit: non si parlerà di Windows 8

Microsoft ha annunciato che quest'anno il "Windows Summit" si terrà dal 25 al 27 maggio presso la sede Microsoft di Redmond. Al contrario di quanto forse alcuni si attendevano, il futuro Windows 8 non sarà nell'agenda dei lavori.

In risposta a una domanda di Ina Fried un portavoce Microsoft ha dichiarato:

"Windows Summit 2010 è un opportunità per i partner e gli sviluppatori di interagire direttamente con il team di Windows e di imparare a costruire grandi prodotti basati su tecnologie di Windows 7 e Internet Explorer".

La società ha aggiunto che "è impegnata con gli sviluppatori hardware e software che già lavorano a stretto contatto con Microsoft ma anche con sviluppatori che negli ultimi 18 mesi non hanno avuto forme di collaborazione."

L'evento potrebbe sembrare simile all'ultimo WinHEC, tenuto nel 2008, focalizzato su Windows 7; in realtà Microsoft ha affermato che per "discutere di Windows 8 sta valutando un calendario migliore". Noi aspettiamo, con le antenne dritte, come al solito.

Windows 8 o Next?

Recentemente ci sono state voci che la prossima versione di Windows potrebbe chiamarsi Next. Per il momento MS ha smesso di fornire notizie su Windows 8 ma ha anche smesso di chiamare Windows 8 il prossimo sistema anche sui luoghi di lavoro Microsoft.

Comunque un articolo della knowledge Base , postato su un sito di supporto Microsoft del 6 Aprile 2010 afferma chiaramente che la prossima versione di Windows si chiamerà Windows 8.

Nell'articolo si dice:

Microsoft is aware of this as being a known issue and will correct this for the next version of Windows i.e. Windows 8.

Tradotto: Microsoft è a conoscenza di ciò come un problema noto che verrà corretto nella prossima versione di Windows, Windows 8.

Inizia uno dei primi tormentoni del prossimo sistema operativo Windows, ossia come si chiamerà? Però la dicitura "Windows 8" sembra più di un nome in codice.

Windows 8 sarà diverso da Windows 7

In uno dei post sui blog MSDN, il product manager del team di Windws Update discuteva con dei collaboratori su come dovrà essere il prossimo Windows 8. Il post è stato cancellato di corsa, ma in rete ne è rimasta traccia tramite questa pagina catturata. Egli ha dichiarato che la prossima versione di Windows sarà completamente diversa dal precedente sistema operativo rilasciato da Microsoft.

Ecco cosa si dice:

Folks started asking me whats in Windows 8 - and the first thing I have to say is that I resonate Steven Sinofsky's interview on who said we're calling it Windows 8? I agree with Steven that till things are baked there is no point floating ideas since it leaves people frustrated when things don't turn out the way they expected. The Windows team promised to deliver a smarter, faster and more user friendly OS with Windows 7 and they delivered just that - the latest quaterly results of Microsoft are a clear indication that Windows 7 has been a success and customers got what Microsoft had promised them! The themes that have been floated truly reflect what people have been looking for years and it will change the way people think about PCs and the way they use them. It is the future of PCs...

One of the great (or maybe not so great) things of being at Microsoft is that every other person wants to ask you why Windows works the way it does. Since I'm part of the Windows update team I get asked even more why does my machnie reboot everytime there is an update and why are there so many updates. So naturally once Windows 7 shipped, my friends, neighbours, relatives, and whoever else you can imagine started asking me So whats next?

La notizia che è trapelata la Build 6.1.7700.0.100122-1900, pone seriamente la domanda: la Build 6.1.7700.0.100122-1900 è il primo passo per Windows 8 e Windows 8 Server o solo una parte del processo di sviluppo sulla strada per Windows 7 Service Pack 1 e Windows Server 2008 SP1. Non c'è modo di rispondere a questa domanda per il momento; però è una prova del fatto che Microsoft è già al lavoro per l'evoluzione di Windows.

La Build è stata compilata il 22 Gennaio 2010, non sembra il Service Pack 1 di Windows 7, ma è difficile pensare che si tratta di windows 8. Ma delle due l'una. Allora, cosa sarà?

Windows 8: si comincia a Luglio 2011?

Un articolo su un blog MSD sembra darci indicazioni sul calendario dei prossimi rilasci di Microsoft. Secondo Chris Green, uno sviluppatore che ha recentemente dismesso di lavorare per Microsoft, Windows 8 mainstream support è programmato per il 01/07/2011, che è la prima data che viene segnalata per quanto riguarda il rilascio del prossimo sistema operativo di Microsoft; e che rende verosimile la data finale programmata.

Nella tabella sotto si possono verifficare anche le date che riguardano le uscite di Office 2010, le più importanti già confermate da Microsoft, e Office 2012.

Le date, come sempre, dovrebbero essere prese cum grano salis. Ma, la profondità e il dettaglio del grafico è non banale e dovrebbe darci una stima approssimativa ma abbastanza veritiera dei piani imminenti di Microsoft.

Windows 8 debutterà nel 2012

Come già detto qui, Windows 8 potrebbe uscire nel 2012. Ossia, seguirebbe la cadenza di un nuovo prodotto ogni tre anni, come avvenuto per Vista e Windows 7.

La roadmap ufficiale non tenta nemmeno di nascondere il nome in codice "Windows 8". Per il momento non sappiamo niente altro sul prossimo sistema operativo di Microsoft. Forse ^-^

Windows 8 entro tre anni dal lancio di Windows 7

Windows 8 dovrebbe debuttare entro tre anni dal lancio di Windows 7. In un post di lavoro per un Software Development Engineer (Ingegnere sviluppo software), un rappresentante della società di Redmond afferma che il progetto di Windows è

“pushing forth on Windows 8 planning and preparation.”

Ma per la verità non c'è nessuna novità in questo: mentre ancora Windows 7 era in lavorazione Microsoft aveva ammesso che si stava già lavorando a Windows 8, e questo blog ne aveva parlato tra i primi. Ma l'affermazione che la "pianificazione e la preparazione di Windows 8" siano ancora in corso significa che in realtà la fase di sviluppo vero e proprio non sia ancora iniziata.

E questo sembra logico, considerato che Windows 7 ha debuttato da poco e ha ancora bisogno di attenzioni di addetti ai lavori (aggiornamento di applicazioni di terza parti, aggiornamento di macchine virtuali, ecc.); queste necessità avevano portato alla richiesta di uno specialista da assumere, come detto sopra.

L'offerta recitava:

“As part of this team, you will help shape Windows 8. Components of our code include a core agent that runs as an NT service, an API layer and a UI application. We talk to the update servers using web services and we have special protocols in place to deal with the massive scale of the system.

L'annuncio di lavoro adesso è stato tolto; probabilmente Microsoft ha trovato quello che cercava.

Windows 8 a 128 bit

Ne avevamo parlato. Che ci crediate o no, il successore di Windows 7 è stato pianificato ed è allo studio già da un pò di tempo. Abbiamo preferito non parlare di indiscrezioni non verificabili a riguardo. Adesso una scheggia di luce, la prima probabilmente, su Windows 8 ha brillato.

Una settimana fa, Robert Morgan, Senior Research & Development di Microsoft, ha parlato della possibilità di supporto a 128 bit sul futuro Windows 8.

Morgan ha recentemente dichiarato:

Working in high security department for research and development involving strategic planning for medium and longterm projects. Research & Development projects including 128bit architecture compatibility with the Windows 8 kernel and Windows 9 project plan. Forming relationships with major partners: Intel, AMD, HP, and IBM.

Robert Morgan is working to get IA-128 working backwards with full binary compatibility on the existing IA-64 instructions in the hardware simulation to work for Windows 8 and definitely Windows 9.

Quindi Microsoft sta lavorando per un'architettura del kernel a 128 bit sul futuro Windows 8, comunque realizzato con certezza su Windows 9. Dovrà esere retro-compatibile con le istruzioni IA-64.

Microsoft a riguardo ha già preso accordi con costruttori di hardware come Intel, AMD, HP e IBM.

Maggiori indizi su Windows 8

Anders Vindberg, Technical Fellow in Microsoft’s Management and Services division, in un’intervista ha ammesso che le sessioni di programmazione dfiWindows 8 sono a buon punto. Dei 12 gruppi creati 8-9 ruotano intorno alla ‘gestione’. Ricordiamo come Microsoft fosse interessata all’assunzione di persone disposte a lavorare su alcune di queste funzioni di gestione ( Distributed File System Replication for Windows 8.)

Stephen Chapman, un appassionato di tecnologia che gestisce il sito UX Evangelist, da mesi è a caccia di ogni piccolo indizio che possa riguardare lo sviluppo di Windows 8. Da recente ha intercettato profili di persone che sembrano coinvolte nello sviluppo di Windows 8, a vario livello.

Riferimenti Chapman ha trovato anche nel kernel patch protection, viaPatchGuard.

Windows 8 Milestone 1 è stato compilato?

Stephen, di UX Evangelist ha riferito che Windows 8 Milestone 1 è stato
compilato. Sembra che Microsoft abbia quindi già iniziato a lavorare su Windows 8; la build è la numero 7504.0.amdfre.winmain.090528 Build-xxxx [anche se è ancora di confermare se la build è regolare o no]. Da notare che la precedente build di Windows ha numero di build appartenente al sistema operativo precedente, quindi è improbabile che questa nuova build appartenga ancora a Windows 7.

Anche se Windows 7 è ancora in fase di pre-RC, con l'Escrow per Win 7 Release Candidate, Build 7077, dietro la porta, Microsoft ha già confermato che si sta già guardando oltre la prossima versione di Windows.

Microsoft in realtà ammette solamente che dalla fase di "pensatoio" per Windows 8 (confermato anche il nome, per il momento) si sta passando alla fase di pianificazione.

Si continua con la politica iniziata con Windows 7. Il sistema operativo, sin dalle primissime fasi di progettazione, passa per un client-tour che acquisisce notizie sulle future esigenze dei clienti e nello stesso tempo ne stabilisce un contatto permanente di scambio di opinioni, ha rivelato Soni Meinke, senior program manager del gruppo di Windows Server. Una caratteristica innovativa di Windows 8 sarà il Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) service, notizia estratta da un'offerta di lavoro della casa di Redmond.

Il motore di replicazione multi-master è stato progettato per razionalizzare la cartella di sincronizzazione tra più server. Il nome Windows 8 quindi fa riferimento non solo alla versione 8 del client di Microsoft, ma anche alla versione server. In questo contesto, è possibile che i miglioramenti siano in realtà una evoluzione di BranchCache di Windows 7 e Windows Server 2008 R2 (Windows 7 Server). [© 2009 Vistablog]

Le future versioni di Windows dovrebbero essere presentate con una cadenza di ogni 2-3 anni, rispettivamente per la versione client e server. Strategia ormai abbastanza chiara di Microsoft, quindi nessuna meraviglia se appena rulasciato Windows 7 si parlerà già di un Windows 9 nel calderone.

E Midori? - questo blog ne aveva parlato tra i primi, azzeccando anche la strategia di Microsoft di lavorare a più sistemi operativi in contemporanea - Midori è, credo oggi, un laboratorio in evoluzione iniziato con Singularity, e che sperimenta a "blocchi" nuove programmazioni e funzionalità che saranno inseriti in successivi SO. Probabilmente piccoli "pezzi" di Midori sono stati già inseriti in Windows 7 e di più ne saranno inseriti in Windows 8. [© 2009 Vistablog]

Sino a un sistema operativo risultante completamente innovativo? Probabile, ma almeno tra 10 anni. E tutto ciò conferma nei fatti (Windows 7 va benissimo) come sia controproducente riprogettare un SO ogni volta da zero, riscrivendolo in gran parte nel kernel e risperimentando tutto da zero, pregi e, soprattutto, difetti. Una strategia dispendiosa che Microsoft abbandona, e che i concorrenti imiteranno, a mio modesto parere.
